We're almost done!

The end of this summer course is right around the corner! I know we are all excited, but I have to remind myself to stay focused and not get too carried away.  Soon all the work will be done, and our grades will be straight As (hopefully) and we can relax for a few weeks before the fall semester starts up.  As much as I'm looking forward to having a break, I am really glad that I have met the classmates I have worked with.  I have enjoyed working on our pronunciation and talking about our struggles and our joys in this class.  I have also enjoyed this blog and getting to know my fellow classmates outside of the virtual classroom.  Good luck on your last few assignments, everyone, and have a great summer break! I'll be getting back to my friends and my nerdy ways as soon as possible.

The end is almost here. Before you know it, it will be December. By the way, my wife had the great idea to celebrate Navidad en julio when my parents were visiting us from México. That plant is the summer arbol de Navidad :)

Life as a homeschool mom

Being a mother is one of the most rewarding jobs that I have been given. I feel that I was given a great opportunity to enrich the lives of young ones. I have been homeschooling my oldest child for about three years and my middle child for two, let me tell you it never gets easy, but it is well worth it. When I first began I thought and questioned myself, "I can't do this, I don't know anything or where to begin." "What if I fail my children?" Our days began with fights and questions about "are you getting this?" (and when I mean fights, it was more like struggles and frustrations on why are you not listening to me and why are you not doing the work.) We decided it was best to join a homeschool community that was a guide and great support for our family. As the support grew and time went on things began to grow into "I get it or I understand what you are explaining" without the tears or struggles. I teach a christian classical education for my children and it works for our family. We learn from each other and our days are never the same. Homeschool may not be for every home, but it is for ours and I can say we love it.

Summer Fun

I have a new roommate! Now there are 5 of us, plus the cat, and the dog.  Her name is Autumn, and we have had a great time getting to know each other.  She fits in well, as everyone who lives here is a bit of a misfit.  We joke that we are the "apartment of misfit toys."  So far, we haven't done too many things together, except the usual grocery shopping and cleaning.  She is also excited about Pokemon, so we have all gone out as roommates to catch 'em all.

I've been listening to a fun new podcast.  It is called "Hello from the Magic Tavern" and it is very funny!  It is about a man who falls thru a dimensional rift behind a Burger King and finds himself in a magical realm.  He hosts the podcast with a wizard and a shape-shifter who is typically a badger, but sometimes he is a small horse who walks on two feet and wears a top hat.

Seeing Dominique post a picture of her baby cousin inspired me to post a picture of my niece, Julianna! I became an Aunt for the first time this March and I am absolutely loving it! My brother, his girlfriend and Julianna live with me and my parents- who became grandparents for the first time!

I'm finally able to start the countdown to celebrating my twenty-first birthday! 13 days until my birthday, but only 12 days until I get to fly up to New York to celebrate with my family! I cannot wait to see my baby cousin! It has been four months since I last saw him, I miss him so much!

I finally was able to clean up a pen where I foster dogs. I hope I get one soon. It's fun. I volunteer for Pet Friends of Duplin County. We save cats and dogs. Amazing people and pets.

Moving day!

The day has come... I have graduated college in North Carolina (while I am from Maryland), and had to decide what was next. My parent very graciously invited me to live back at home, so I accepted the offer so that I could save some money for a place of my own.  I am currently applying for jobs in Maryland and Washington DC. So far I have been offered a long term sub position at a Spanish immersion school and am considering the offer. I think that the opportunity to substitute for a year could be eye opening and could help me in considering my "ideal"classroom setting.

Pokemon Go

I know I am a 28 year old, but this game is the most fun thing I've done in quite sometime! I have only had it for two days, but I've walked 20 miles, met new friends, and had a really good time.  My roommates and neighbors all play, so we went out one night to catch Pokemon.  We had so much fun running around town, catching Pokemon, and taking over gyms.

Movie day!

Since my roommates and I were away from each other for over a month we are trying to make up for lost time! Today we are going to go see Life of Pets! We've been DYING to see it since the previews came out! So here I am, trying to get all of my homework done so I can enjoy my Friday! TGIF!

Hey everyone! I am so thankful that everyone in this class is super nice and helpful. Last week was a tough week for me, my mom who I am super close with, has Lupus. Lupus is a very scary disease and affects the organs. She is on medicine that helps reduce the flare-ups but every now and then, one slips through. Last week we spent almost everyday in the ER getting fluids and shots to reduce the pain. Luckily, we have a very understanding professor and classmates so I was able to struggle through the week. On a positive note, she is feeling much better now! (This was us on a Ski trip in West Virginia about 3 years ago).

Happy Independence Day!

My grandmother is feeling much better! I got to spend a few days with her for the 4th.  My uncle has a beach house on Harkers Island.  He invited me, my mom, my grandmom, and his wife's sister and her family to come.  My aunt's family came all the way from Texas! We had a good time, and my uncle hosted a wonderful crab boil with shrimp, clam, sausage, corn, potatoes, and everything else you can imagine!  It was a wonderful celebration of patriotism and family. My grandmother insisted she was doing fine and refused to let anyone else drive.  I think having family around her is doing wonders for her health. She is so independent, she hates for anyone to do anything for her.  I hope everyone else had a great holiday weekend!

Mi mamá está bailando

Mi mamá está bailando. As my mom is reaching the 70 year old mark she is becoming more active. She dances almost everyday in her senior center group in México. She's the lady that is at the front of the group almost all the time. She has a big white flower on her head. She inspires me.

Hey everyone! So as we all know this upcoming weekend is the 4th of July! What are your plans? My fiances family is coming in tomorrow from New York, Long Island specifically and I am so excited! I can't wait to see his sister, Michelle, she is like my best friend. This is my fiance, me and Michelle at our Engagement Party back in April. Beach Day!

Yesterday, I took advantage of the beautiful weather and my roommates and I had a day at the beach! It was so relaxing! My roommate, Rachel (with curly hair in the picture) and I sang Little Mermaid songs in the ocean. We had so much fun!  Then we came home and cleaned the house together.  That part wasn't as much fun, but it is nice to have a clean home.  We are both taking online classes this summer, but she is a student at CFCC.  She'll graduate soon and transfer to UNCW so we can both be UNCW students together! I am excited for her success, and she loves visiting campus with me.  We live with 2 boys, too.  Now if only we could get them to help cleaning the house.....
P.S. I'm the one who forgot sunglasses :)

Originally when I was going back to Wilmington, my roommates were not going to be joining me until the end of July and August. I was so upset about this! And I hated the idea of living alone for over a month. But as luck would have it, they've both changed their minds and will be headed back to Wilmington for the summer! I can't wait to see them!

Hola clase!
Its a little embarrassing to say, but I am excited to be taking this class because I just graduated and already miss school! It must be a teacher thing, but I love learning and feel like my best self when I am learning new things. I will only be living in Wilmington for a few more weeks so I am trying to make the most out of living at the beach. I babysit for a family that I absolutely adore and am trying to spend as much time as possible with the kids. The kids love science, so I always try to bring over a fun experiment. This week we made slime! Ciencia es lo mejor!

FINALLY TIME!

After over a month of being home in Charlotte, it is finally time to head back to Wilmington on Friday! Although I am SO thankful for my parents for taking care of me after my surgery, I am so ready to get back into my routine and back in my own space! When you come back home after living away for almost three years, home doesn't feel so much like home anymore!

I am also THRILLED to get back to work! I work at a daycare and miss my kiddos like crazy! Also, having over a month off from work does something not so great to your bank account...

Ready to get back! Glad I'm finally feeling better! Yay summer!

Summertime!
Happy summer everyone! I hope you are all enjoying summer outside of your classes and finding time to relax.  I have been spending my time going to see my friend's bands play, traveling to spend time with family, and relaxing with my pets; my dog, Gypsy, and my cat, Peso.

These two are trying to figure out how to be friends with each other, and some days are harder than others.  My favorite thing is when we go for a walk and Peso follows me and Gypsy.  Peso stays just out of range of Gypsy's leash and Gypsy tries her hardest to catch up.  Mi perro y mi gato son muy adorable!
Thanks for reading :)

Hi class!

What a beautiful summer so far!  Unfortunately, I've missed a lot this week.  My grandmother is sick and I live the closest to her.  When she needed help going to doctor's visits and taking medications, of course I gladly stepped up to the plate!  She had a huge hand in raising me, and I couldn't imagine not being there for her as she has been there for me.  Things get a little sticky when she tells me that she canceled her internet because she is afraid.  She believes that people will find and steal her private information if she has an internet connection.  So here I am, trying to catch up after spending a week with her, with my computer, but without internet.  Thankfully, my mom has taken some time off of work to look out for my grandmother, so I'm back in the 21st century, internet and all!!

Here's a picture of us when she was feeling better.

She's my grandma, and she's done so much for me! I can't imagine what I'd do without her.

Why I might sound muffled in my recordings...

This summer has been quite different from others.... And definitely not the way I would want to spend my summer!

On May 17, I had to have jaw surgery. Long story short, I have had jaw pain for years due to a growth spirt that caused my jaw to be not properly aligned. So it had to be fixed in order to stop the pain!

I am over a month past surgery now and well on my way to recovery. After three weeks of a liquid diet, eating food has never tasted so good! Even if  my diet still can only consist of mashed potatoes and other mushy foods... It's better than soup through a straw!

Here is an embarassing picture of me looking like I got beat up.... This was just a few hours after surgery

I look a lot more normal now, thankfully.
But if you ever have trouble understanding me, it's because my lips are still numb and my jaw is still very stiff! It's a work in progress!

I went for the first time in my life to Fort Lauderdale in Florida. It amazes me how different everything is. Es muy diferente. It was my first time seeing pinapple plants. My daughter loved it too :)
